Writing Journey of Mine

Writing. It seems tough uh? It sure does. Writing not only involve the knowledge of language and topics but the types of writing play a big role. There’s different types of writing like novel, scripts, journals and we are going to talk about the importance of knowing what you write.

As we know there are variety of ways of writing but you know why? Each way of writing will deliver different important things to the readers. For example novel. Novels are well detailed books explaining each situation and action while short stories focus on getting the story across.

I would like to touch on my experience exploring the types of writing.

I started with writing quotes as it was easier to write and I had things to say.

Then I started a novel called Reverie. For my writing I use this method which you might have seen in the movies or TV dramas. I'll switch up the past and present scenarios for each chapters. For example the first chapter talks about what's happening in the present and the next chapters a relevant past to explain what happened or the story of what happened in the past. I chose this way of writing as it explains the story better and it keep the suspense. One of the down point is it's a risky move. For me at least. I have written the front part and I know how to end the book. But in the middle? I had tough time coming with words to fill a up chapter after 18 chapters. I was stuck on what to say next first.

That's when I had writers block. After few months of being lost, I discovered Commaful website. It's known for short stories and poems. Then I thought why not try writing poems. But I'm not that good at rhyming words and using sophisticated words. Then I discovered free poem writing. It's a type of writing where you just write what you feel. There's no fixitiated structure and you can create your own style. For a good year I tried writing various things.

Then I was lost again. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know how to continue writing. I had a lot of stories to tell, a lot of messages to convey, but yet I didn’t know how to write them. A writer don’t know how to write? Yes. I didn’t know what format to use to type out my words that will convey what I really want to say. That’s how I realised that I need to explore more on the types of writing. A type that will suit best for my story.

So, whatever you want to write, do a research first. Read more on the types of writing that will be the best!
